Maneuvers. The barlgura uses maneuvers (maneuver save Difficulty 15). It has 5 stamina dice which are d8s, a dice limit of 2, regains all expended stamina dice when it finishes a long rest, and regains half its total stamina dice when it finishes a short rest. It knows the following maneuvers:

1 stamina die: bonecrush, debilitating crush, disorient, fling, grapple, hammer spin, hammer through, hammering blow, knockback, rolling stone, smash, spring attack

2 stamina dice: stone bones, sturdy stance, tremoring strike

Reckless. At the start of his turn, the barlgura can gain advantage on melee weapon attacks during that turn, but attacks made against it have advantage until the start of its next turn.

Running Leap. With a running start, the barlgura has advantage to jump.

Spellcasting. The barlgura uses Divinity (wis) to cast spells (spell save Difficulty 13, +4 to hit with spell attacks). It has 2 mana, a mana limit of 1, regains all expended mana when it finishes a long rest, and regains half its total mana when it finishes a short rest. It knows the following spells:

1 mana: disguise, invisibility (self only)

1/day each: entangle, phantasmal force

Actions (3)

Bite (1/turn). Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage.

Fist (2/turn). Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit. Hit: 9 (1d10 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Summon Demon (1/long rest). The barlgura has a 30 percent chance of summoning one barlgura. A summoned demon appears in an unoccupied space within 10 meters of the barlgura, acts as its ally, and can’t summon other demons. It remains for 1 minute, until it or the barlgura dies, or until the barlgura dismisses it on its turn (no action required).

Maneuvers

As an action, make a melee weapon attack that deals bludgeoning damage to crush the creature’s skeletal structure.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage and the creature must succeed on a Fortitude saving throw or it is slowed 1 until the end of its next turn.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

Enhance
You can augment this maneuver with the following options, expending stamina dice for each option.
  • You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended and the slowed level by 1 for every two additional stamina die expended.

  • You can expend 1 additional stamina die so the creature is slowed for 1 minute/stamina die. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

As an action, make a melee weapon attack with a weapon that deals bludgeoning damage to debilitate the creature.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage and the creature must succeed on a Fortitude saving throw or it only deals half damage until the end of its next turn..

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended. This augment also causes the creature to be debilitated for 1 minute/stamina die. At the end of each of its turns, a debilitated creature can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.

1 minute/stamina die

As an action, make a weapon attack to disorient the creature.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage and the creature must succeed on a Reflex saving throw or it can’t take reactions for the duration.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Enhance
You can augment this maneuver with the following options, expending stamina dice for each option.
  • You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

  • Stagger. You can expend 1 additional stamina die so the creature is staggered instead of not being able to take reactions, but only until the end of its next turn. You can expend 1 additional stamina die so the creature is staggered for the duration.

  • Incapacitate. You can expend 2 additional stamina die so the creature is incapacitated instead of not being able to take reactions, but only until the end of its next turn.

  • Stun. You can expend 4 additional stamina die so the creature is stunned instead of not being able to take reactions, but only until the end of its next turn.

As an action you can attempt to grab and throw a creature that is your size or smaller with a natural weapon such as a tentacle. The creature must make a Reflex saving throw.

On a failure, you throw it 2 meters away from you where it falls prone and takes bludgeoning damage equal to the stamina die.

On a critical failure, you throw it twice as far and it takes twice as much damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage, target a creature of a larger size, and throw the creature an additional 2 meters for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, make a melee weapon attack and a Brawn check to grapple the creature.

Enhance

You can add the stamina die to the attack’s damage (add half on a miss by 4 or less) for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, make a weapon attack with a melee weapon that you wield in two hands that deals bludgeoning damage and then spin your weapon around. Each creature within your weapon’s reach must make a Reflex saving throw.

On a failure, it takes bludgeoning damage equal to the stamina die.

On a critical failure, it takes twice as much damage.

On a success, it takes half as much damage.

On a critical success, it takes no damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, make a weapon attack with a melee weapon that deals bludgeoning damage and then hammer through the target. Each creature within 1 meter of the target and within your weapon’s reach must make a Reflex saving throw.

On a failure, it takes bludgeoning damage equal to the stamina die.

On a critical failure, it takes twice as much damage.

On a success, it takes half as much damage.

On a critical success, it takes no damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, make a melee weapon attack with a melee weapon that deals bludgeoning damage to smash through armor and bone.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

Treat the target’s soak as being 2 less than normal.

Enhance
You can augment this maneuver with the following options, expending stamina dice for each option.
  • You can increase the damage and ignore an additional Soak for each additional stamina die expended.

  • Elder Mountain Hammer. You can expend 2 additional stamina dice to ignore damage resistances.

As an action, make a weapon attack to knock the creature back.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage and if the creature is your size or smaller, it must succeed on a Reflex saving throw or you push it 4 meters away from you.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage, push the creature an additional meter, and target a creature of a larger size for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, you can use the Dash action. If you use a Brawn check to Overrun a creature during this movement and your check passes the creature’s passive Brawn or Nimbleness (if it chooses to avoid you), it takes bludgeoning damage equal to the stamina die and is knocked prone. If you fail to Overrun by 4 or less, the creature takes half as much bludgeoning damage, but isn’t knocked prone.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, make a melee weapon attack with a weapon that deals bludgeoning damage against an object or structure to smash it.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

The attack deals double damage to objects and structures.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

As an action, you can use the Dash action. If you move at least 3 meters straight toward a creature, you can make a melee weapon attack against it.

On a hit, add the stamina die to the attack’s damage.

On a critical hit, add twice as much damage.

On a miss by 4 or less, add half as much damage.

Enhance

You can increase the damage for each additional stamina die expended.

As a reaction, which you use when you are hit by a weapon attack and take bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage from it, you halve the attack’s damage against you.

As a reaction, which you use when you make a skill check or a saving throw to avoid being pushed, knocked prone, or grappled, you can sturdily position yourself. You make the roll with advantage. You can do so after the roll but before any effects of the roll occur.

If the roll already has advantage or disadvantage, you cannot apply another instance of advantage or disadvantage and you must use this before the roll to cancel out any advantage or disadvantage.

As an action, make a melee weapon attack with a weapon that deals bludgeoning damage to cause a tremor to ripple out from the creature. Each creature on the ground other than you within 1 meter of the creature must make a Reflex saving throw.

On a failure, a creature is knocked prone.

Enhance
You can augment this maneuver with the following options, expending stamina dice for each option.
  • You can add the stamina die as bludgeoning damage if the creature fails the saving throw for each additional stamina die expended.

  • You can expend 1 additional stamina dice to increase the area to within 2 meters of the creature.

Spells

1 hour/mana

As an action, you change the appearance of a creature that you can touch or see within 5 meters. You give the creature a new, illusory, appearance. An unwilling creature can make a Will saving throw, and if it succeeds, it is unaffected by this spell.

The spell disguises physical appearance as well as clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment. You can make the creature seem up to 30 centimeters shorter or taller and appear thin, fat, or in between. You can’t change a creature’s body type, so you must choose a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs. Otherwise, the extent of the illusion is up to you. The spell lasts for the duration, unless you dismiss it on your turn (no action required).

The changes wrought by this spell fail to hold up to physical inspection. For example, if you use this spell to add a hat to a creature’s outfit, objects pass through the hat, and anyone who touches it would feel nothing or would feel the creature’s head and hair. If you use this spell to appear thinner than you are, the hand of someone who reaches out to touch you would bump into you while it was seemingly still in midair.

A creature can use an action to inspect a creature, making a skill check using Insight (Intelligence) against your spell save Difficulty. If it succeeds, it becomes aware that the creature is disguised.

Augment

You can target two additional creatures for each additional mana expended. The creatures must be within 5 meters of each other when you target them.

concentration, 1 minute/mana

As an action, you become invisible for the duration. Anything you are wearing or carrying is invisible as long as it is on your person. The spell ends if you attack, throw a concoction, use a maneuver, or cast a spell.

Augment
You can augment this spell with the following options, expending mana for each option.
  • Shared Invisibility. You can target two additional creatures or objects for each additional mana expended. The creatures and objects must be within 5 meters of each other when you target them.

  • Continued Invisibility. You can expend 1 additional mana to change the duration to 1 hour/mana.

  • Mislead. You can expend 1 additional mana to create an illusory double of yourself where you are standing when you turn invisible.

You can use an action to move your illusory double up to twice your speed and make it gesture, speak, and behave in whatever way you choose.

You can see through its eyes and hear through its ears as if you were located where it is. On each of your turns as an action, you can switch from using its senses to using your own, or back again. While you are using its senses, you are blinded and deafened in regard to your own surroundings.

  • Misty Escape. You can expend 1 additional mana to cast the spell as a reaction, which you use when you are hit by an attack or missed by 4 or less. Change the duration to instantaneous. You can turn invisible and teleport up to 10 meters to an unoccupied space you can see. You halve the attack’s damage against you. You remain invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack or cast a spell.

  • Greater Invisibility. You can expend 3 additional mana so the spell does not end for a target that attacks, throws a concoction, uses a maneuver, or casts a spell.

concentration, 1 minute/mana

As two actions, you craft an illusion that takes root in the mind of a creature that you can touch or see within 10 meters. The creature must make a Will saving throw. If the creature is a construct or an undead, the spell has no effect on it.

On a failure, you create a phantasmal object, creature, or other visible phenomenon of your choice that is no larger than a 2-meter cube and that is perceivable only to the target for the duration. The phantasm includes sound, temperature, and other stimuli, also evident only to the creature.

A creature can use an action to examine the phantasm, making a skill check using Insight (Intelligence) against your spell save Difficulty. If the check succeeds, the target realizes that the phantasm is an illusion, and the spell ends.

While a target is affected by the spell, the target treats the phantasm as if it were real. The target rationalizes any illogical outcomes from interacting with the phantasm. For example, a target attempting to walk across a phantasmal bridge that spans a chasm falls once it steps onto the bridge. If the target survives the fall, it still believes that the bridge exists and comes up with some other explanation for its fall—it was pushed, it slipped, or a strong wind (at least 30 kilometers per hour) might have knocked it off.

An affected target is so convinced of the phantasm’s reality that it can even take damage from the illusion. A phantasm created to appear as a creature can attack the target. Similarly, a phantasm created to appear as fire, a pool of acid, or lava can burn the target. Each round on your turn, the phantasm can deal 1d6 psychic damage to the target if it is in the phantasm’s area or within 1 meter of the phantasm, provided that the illusion is of a creature or hazard that could logically deal damage, such as by attacking. The target perceives the damage as a type appropriate to the illusion.

concentration, 1 minute/mana

As two actions, grasping weeds and vines sprout from the ground in a sphere centered on a point within 20 meters. For the duration, these plants turn the ground in the area into difficult terrain.

A creature that enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must make a Reflex saving throw. A creature that starts its turn in the area and is already restrained by the vines takes 2d6 slashing damage.

On a failure, it takes 1d6 slashing damage and is restrained for the duration.

On a critical failure, it takes twice as much damage.

On a success, it takes half as much damage.

On a critical success, it takes no damage.

At the start of each of your turns if the vines are within 20 meters of you, you can cause them to move up to 2 meters in a direction that you choose. If you spend an action, you can move them up to 10 meters.

A creature restrained by the vines, or one that can touch the creature, can use an action to make a Brawn or Nimbleness check (its choice) against your spell save Difficulty.

On a success, the target is freed.

When the spell ends, the conjured plants wilt away.

Augment

You can increase the damage by 1d6 for each additional mana expended.
